The iO Summer Intensive

The Summer Intensive condenses almost the entire iO Theater school of thought into five incredible weeks.
The class meets every Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 5 pm. We’ll even have some special 3 hour workshops on Fridays on everything from scene work to musical improv. Workshop Teachers have included members of Beer Shark Mice, Baby Wants Candy, and The Reckoning.
Each week, a different iO teacher instructs the class in a particular level of curriculum.
Week 1 – Level 1: Philosophy of Long Form
Week 2 – Level 2: Character, Environment, Group Work
Week 3 – Level 3: Scene work
Week 4 – Level 4: The Harold
Week 5 – Performance Prep and Performance
The class culminates in a bona fide main stage performance here in our theater! That Performance is free and open to the public and seating is based on arrival.
All of our teachers for the Summer Intensive are currently instructors in our Training Centers at iO in Chicago or LA. Your teachers will be assigned upon your arrival.
We cap Summer Intensive classes at 15 students and will have up to 4 sections. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
The cost for the program is $1,000.
We do not refer housing and tuition is non-refundable.
Also, this program is designed for people who do not plan on permanently relocating to the Chicago area. If you live/are moving here, you might as well take advantage of luxuriating in our full program!
Completion of the Summer Intensive makes you eligible to start in Level 3 of our regular classes.
